Brain injury happens more than people might think. The estimates of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that over a million brain injuries occur every year. When traumatic brain injury does occur, it impacts the lives of not only the victim but their family and friends as well. This is because traumatic brain injury, like many other kinds of severe and incapacitating injuries, may result in the need for continuous and long-term medical treatment. In these cases, personal injury attorneys are often helpful advocates who can assist victims recover compensation for the treatment they need. Brain injury attorney Robert A. Brenner has become one of the expert legal advocates that help traumatic brain injury victims.
“Some cases of traumatic brain injury are so distressing that it is difficult to imagine how the families of the victims can bear to see their loved one in so much discomfort,” said Brenner, a Los Angeles, California brain injury attorney. Brenner has been practicing personal injury law since 1975 and is the creator of www.Catastrophicinjury.com. Brenner's practice has focused on catastrophic injuries like brain damage, spinal cord injuries, and burn injuries.
Brenner's voice carries a certain degree of calmness, but it is his confident attitude and disposition that his clients most likely rely on to help them tread the legal process. “Although it is difficult,” said Brenner, “I try not to get caught up with the emotional side of the situation. I have to remain composed in order to help my clients.”
The CDC has reported that brain damage caused by car accidents account for 20 percent of traumatic brain injury cases and 11 percent result from a violent assault. Other brain injuries often occur during the victim's participation in a recreational sport.
There are different types of brain injuries. Some only involve a concussion, which usually results in the treatment and release from the emergency room. Other situations are much more troubling. Many traumatic brain injury cases involve such severe injuries that the victims never fully recover from the injury. “It is the severe traumatic brain injury situations when it is most important to make sure that the victims are financially provided for,” said Brenner. “My end goal in this type of situation is to help the victim recover enough compensation to pay for medical care, living arrangements, and any other type of assistance they may need to function every day.”
Brian injury cases are complicated and may involve the use of expert witnesses. Brain injury attorneys often hire expert medical witnesses to evaluate the medical condition of the victim and hire economists to help calculate the cost of future medical care. “These cases are certainly complicated and require both experience and patience regardless of whether the case goes to trial or is settled out of court,” said Brenner.
Robert A. Brenner earned a J.D. from Whittier College, Beverly School of Law. Benner is an active member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and he has been selected as a Super Lawyer for the last five years.
